Why having Clear Commercial Event Goals are Key

Clear commercial event goals aren’t a “nice to have” — they’re the difference between a day out and a measurable return on investment. At Lucy Claire Events, every experience is designed with purpose, whether it’s a retreat day, an awards dinner, a conference or a boutique event. And nothing demonstrates this better than our annual fly‑fishing day on the River Nadder in Wiltshire.

Now in its tenth year with the client — and seventh on this beautiful stretch of river — the event brings together five guests from a leading property firm for two days of connection, conversation and calm. Typically, they arrive the night before; this year they stayed at The Great Bustard, where I meet them for dinner and a relaxed start to the experience. The next morning, they head to the river for a 9.30am start, with rods provided by Darren, the river keeper, flies purchased at Sportfish in Reading, and  fishing licences organised in advance by Lucy Claire Events.

Lunch is prepared by the brilliant Bea from Holway Kitchen, whose food always becomes a talking point. Each guest can take home two fish, but the real value isn’t in the catch — it’s in the conversations. This event consistently strengthens relationships, opens new opportunities and creates the kind of shared memories that no boardroom can match.

As my client explains, “The result is a relaxed, high‑quality experience that allows our guests to connect, unwind, and build relationships in a meaningful way. It’s become one of our most valuable annual networking events, and we look forward to many more.” To view the full testimonial, please visit: Savills UK Fishing – Lucy Claire Events

And that’s the point. When you set clear goals — networking, relationship‑building, client retention, team connection — you can design an experience that delivers exactly that. It’s the same approach we bring to our retreat days, awards dinners, conferences and intimate boutique gatherings: purposeful design that leads to meaningful outcomes.
